Do you know not all carbon fiber is the same, There are many construction techniques such as press cure, autoclave, oven, resin transfer molding and wet layup at room temperature. Each technique has its own advantages and disadvantages for processing carbon fiber. We use pre-impregnated carbon fiber with a thermoset epoxy; this type of material is needed for the press and autoclave method. Since this material has resin on it already, the panels come out with a lower net resin panel. If the resin is applied to the dry carbon fiber fabric by RTM or a wet layup the resin content is much higher. We use the net resin system for our carbon fiber panels. This makes our carbon fiber panels stiffer due to the lower resin content in the carbon fiber laminate. A lower resin content can make a stiffer panel. Resin types for carbon fiber panels are important and results can vary, creating either a stronger or weaker panel. Resin types also affect how well the carbon fiber panels cut.
